The NADA offices have been inundated today with enquiries as to when the “specific directions” for the sale of motor vehicles will be forthcoming from the Ministers office, as the initial indications and expectations were that industry would receive the “specific directions” during the course of today.
Please be advised that the NADA team together with NAAMSA have been in constant communication with the Minister’s advisory team to assist with the fast-tracking of the publication of the “specific directions” relating to motor vehicle sales. This matter is currently being addressed by the Department and will be finalised shortly. Unfortunately precise timelines are not available.
We fully understand your frustrations and the urgency to get back to work, but we need to remind you that 8 days ago the sale of motor vehicles was restricted to Alert Level 2. As a result of active lobbying by NAAMSA and NADA, the submission of compelling arguments / motivations, Government listened to our concerns and was convinced that a move to Alert Level 4 would be in the interests of all parties with low transmission risk, which in its own was a major achievement in such a short period.
So our urgent appeal to you – is to remain patient for a little longer and await the publication of the “specific directions” relating to motor vehicle sales.
Do not open your dealer dealerships sales floors (selling of motor vehicles) until such time as the “specific directions” have been published, we do not want to undo all the hard work undertaken at this the eleventh hour.
Please respect the process as good corporate citizens, we have one final hurdle to clear and then the goal will be achieved.
Kindly also note that the SAPS has been actively inspecting dealerships and anyone in contravening the Regulations i.e. trading in motor vehicles without the “specific directions” being in place have either been ordered to close, fined and / or both. This was also raised with senior officials with the SAPS and they confirmed that this an instruction to SAPS members on the ground.
